Student Staff Selection Process 


Step 1

Attend an Information Session in November. Info sessions are highly recommended and an important part of understanding the role of a Community Assistant/Fusion Catalyst. If you are unable to attend an info session on your campus, you can attend one on the other campuses.


Step 2 

Apply on Workday by 3pm Arizona time December 1, 2025. Applications for the Community Assistant/Fusion Catalyst positions open on November 1, 2025. Positions within University Housing for students are found on the ASU Student Employment Page.

Step 3

Submit the Student Staff Preference Form by 11:59 p.m. Arizona time December 1, 2025. Students should apply for a student leader position on their respective campus and use the preference form to indicate their interest in the communities offered within University Housing. See employment locations for more information. 


Step 4 

Candidates who qualify will be interviewed in February. Offers will then be made throughout March.

Community Assistant

Often referred to as one of the most challenging and rewarding leadership roles an undergraduate can pursue, the Community Assistant will work directly with our first-year and continuing Sun Devils. As a CA you will serve as a mentor, ensure a safe and respectful environment, forge intentional and life-long connections, and build an engaging residential experience. 

*All CA’s are required to live in the residence halls during the duration of their position.

  1. Applicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative and semester GPA of 2.75 (3.0 for Barrett communities and for graduate students).
  2. Applicants must be at sophomore status or above, enrolled full-time in classes at ASU by the start of the appointment period (August 2026).
  3. Contract positions are early August – mid May.
    Including some weekdays, weekends, break periods, and University approved holidays or closures.
  4. Applicants must also be in good standing with University Housing and the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities.
  5. Demonstrated leadership skills and previous extracurricular involvement either in high school or with other organizations on campus.
  6. Ability to connect with and relate to a diverse population of students
  7. A minimum of 20 hours of free time to dedicate to this position each week.
    1. This position is classified with ASU Human Resources as a 20-hours per week position. Students in this role may only work an additional 5 hours in another position on campus outside of Educational Outreach & Student Services.
  8. Strong communication skills, including the ability to build inclusive relationships with other students and student leaders.

Fusion Catalyst

As a Fusion Catalyst at the Downtown Phoenix campus, you are expected to actively build relationships with student residents, ensure a safe and welcoming environment, serve as a mentor and provide students with the resources needed for their success at ASU. This position is designed for student staff members who are looking for a greater leadership role and who are interested in innovation and entrepreneurship.
