Guest and Conference Housing Employment

Guest & Conference Housing (GCH) has employment opportunities every summer. Student staff positions are a terrific way for students to go to school, live on campus, and work during the summer. Internships are also available for graduate-level students studying in a related field.

Summer Conference Assistant

As a Summer Conference Assistant (SCA), you have the opportunity to work with professional staff in maintaining the daily operation of the residence halls, as well as network with the various conference groups that stay on campus. The SCA position is often a stepping-stone to other leadership positions on campus.

The SCA position is posted in the Spring semester. To apply, visit the Student Employment page.

Essential functions include working at a front desk, answering telephones, assisting visitors, conducting check-in and check-out for guests, building inspection (maintenance and cleanliness), entering online maintenance requests, light cleaning, setup of guest rooms, inventory control, and other tasks as needed. SCAs serve in a duty rotation for a specific hall. Duty is similar to Community Assistant duty, where you are responsible for doing walks, locking doors and gates as needed, and serving in on-duty rotation (5 p.m. to 8 a.m. on weekdays, and 24-hours per day on weekends and holidays). SCAs are required to attend weekly staff meeting, group meetings, and individual meetings with supervisor. Other duties as assigned.

Employment Locations

  • Polytechnic, Tempe & West

Employment locations include the Polytechnic, Tempe & West campuses. Aside from monetary compensation, SCAs will also be provided with housing accommodations within a summer residence hall for the duration of employment. SCAs MUST live in the assigned residence hall.

PLEASE NOTE: This is your primary employment for the summer. Outside activities are limited to 10 hours per week (With approval from SCA’s supervisor). Outside activities include club involvement, class, other employment, internships, and any other outside associations. Due to the need for flexible scheduling 24-hours a day, seven days a week, other employment must be limited and all class/work schedules MUST be approved in writing in advance by the supervisor.

ACUHO-I Internship

As a member-organization, ASU participates yearly in the ACUHO-I Internship program through opportunities with GCH.  The internship program is a three-month program (May to August). GCH seeks graduate-level interns from around the nation to join its team. The skills and knowledge learned from the internship program yields valuable experience to complement current coursework and insight meant to prepare you for next steps in your career.

As an ACUHO-I Intern, you will be serving on the GCH leadership team and working closely with a variety of housing professionals from different functional units including, but not limited to: Facilities Management, Residential Life, Occupancy Management, Front Desk Operations and a variety of third party partners.

Interested applicants may apply directly on the ACUHO-I website: https://www.acuho-i.org/
