Connecting Your Smart TV to the Internet

The best way to connect your smart TV to the internet is with a wired Ethernet connection. If your TV does not have an Ethernet port, you may connect it to the ‘asu guest’ wireless network by following these steps:

1. On your mobile phone or computer and while connected to the ‘asu’ wireless internet, go to https://nac-mydevice.asu.edu and sign in with your ASURITE username and password.
2. Select “Add” to register a new device.
3. Give your device a nickname in “Device name” and then enter the Wireless MAC for your device in “Device ID”, and click ‘Submit’.
4. Connect your registered device to the ‘asu guest’ wireless network.

If you have an external streaming device that you’ll be connecting to your television such as a Roku, Apple TV, Fire TV, etc) you may connect it to the ‘asu guest’ wireless network by following the same steps above.

Instructions on how to find the MAC address for common streaming devices

Please use the steps below to find the MAC address of popular gaming consoles. A MAC address is a unique alphanumeric identifier (can contain numbers 0-9 or letters A through F). MAC addresses are often broken up into pairs using colons or dashes (e.g.12:34:56:4a:5b:6c). 

Note: It is critical to write down the MAC address correctly because every character is important.

Apple TV

1. With your Apple TV remote, navigate to and select the Settings icon.
2. From the Settings menu, select General.
3. Under General, select Network.
4. Your MAC Address will be next to either Wi-Fi Address or Ethernet Address, depending on how you are connected to the internet.

Roku/Roku Express

1. On the back of your Roku there are six 2-digit pairs of numbers/letters separated by colons, e.g. 00:0D:0A:1H:3G:5C. One set is for Ethernet and the other set is for the wireless.
2. Alternatively, from the Roku home screen, select Settings > Network and locate the value next to Wireless MAC Address.

Fire TV

1. Plug in your Amazon Fire TV stick into your TV.
2. If this is the first time using this Fire TV device, the wireless MAC address will appear in the list of wireless networks during setup at the far-right of the list. If this Fire TV stick has been used in the past, navigate to Settings > System > About > Network and the wireless MAC address will be listed at this screen.
